Let me introduce myself. I am Reverend Bob Ruth. I am an Ordained Elder in the Holston Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Currently, I’m honored to serve First Church Hill United Methodist Church. This is the third church I have served since obtaining my Master of Divinity degree from Sewanee, School of Theology in 2012. My previous appointments have been Norwood UMC in Knoxville, Tennessee and Rural Retreat UMC in Virginia. I have always felt a strong call to help others. For several years I practiced as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker after obtaining my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Tennessee. I had a very satisfying career as a therapist. However, God had other plans for me. God called me into ordained ministry, and I answered his call on my life. I am thrilled to be a pastor. I love to share the good news about Jesus Christ and building his kingdom. God has blessed me by giving me three wonderful congregations to serve. I am also blessed to have a great marriage to my amazing wife Elaine. Elaine is also a United Methodist Pastor. We have two adult children and a grandson. Having grown up in Knoxville, Tennessee and graduating from the University of Tennessee I am naturally, a huge Tennessee Volunteers fan. My other interests include fly fishing, backpacking, camping, and playing guitar. I want to welcome you and invite you to join us at First Church Hill UMC. It is a wonderful, welcoming congregation.
